ACT
Unit

Overview
The ACT Unit provides services for up to six children in the age range from
6-14. Services provided include:
- assessment
- crisis stabilization
- short-term residential
treatment
The length of stay will vary and may be up to 90 days depending on the
services requested. These children may be new to the child welfare system,
or they may already be a part of the system. This program is based on a
Level System where children earn more privileges through positive
behaviors.
Three short-term and
three long-term beds are available.
Services Available
Assessment
These services may
include all/or portions of the following:
* Psychiatric assessments
* Medication reviews
* Social history / genograms
* Health need assessments
* Treatment and placement recommendations (reviewed every three weeks)
Stabilization
These services may include
* Individual, group and family treatment
* Medication reviews and monitoring
* Close supervision and a safe, therapeutic milieu
* Case management
* Identification of community resources for support
Treatment (Short-term Residential)
* All the services of stabilization, but less intense
* Treatment and placement recommendations
* Smooth transition to long-term residential, if needed.
Referral
Process
Please call Kerry Howcroft at 859/ 331-2040 ext. 218. Kerry will ask
essential information and will determine appropriateness for placement.
Referrals are accepted 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Placement is
dependent on current availability.
We will not accept suicidal, homicidal, chronic runaways, children in need
of detox, children with physical or mental handicaps, E.G., IQ below 65.
A mental status exam will be given at admission.
A legal guardian must be present at the time of admission to sign all the
applicable documentation.
Payment
Children must be committed to the Cabinet for Families and Children. We
only accept children committed to the Department of Children Based
Services.
