  • Can provide a nurturing and structural environment

Meet Kentucky Requirements

  • Be a Kentucky resident
  • Are between the ages of 21-65
  • Are married or single; however if married, must be married for a period of at least two years
  • Be in good physical and mental health
  • Have no serious criminal convictions
  • Own or rent a home that provides a safe physical environment  

Additional Foster Parent Requirements

  • Have no substantiated history of child or spouse abuse
  • At least one foster parent must be a full-time homemaker, exceptions approved by Director of TFC when other acceptable supports or child care plans are documented
  • Have access to flexible, convenient and reliable transportation
  • Have access to convenient telephone usage for communication with community resources
  • Can own, rent or lease a home, but it should be comparable to others in the neighborhood or close proximity. It must be in good repair and free of all hazards. All firearms must be securely locked out of reach of a child
  • Home must have working smoke detectors within 10 feet of each occupied bedroom
  • Home must be equipped with a working carbon monoxide detector
  • Children in a foster home can share a room, but no more than four children per room
  • Children must have their own bed; however, siblings of the same sex and similar age may share a bed if special consideration is given to the background of the child
  • A total of no more than six children can reside in the same foster home, including foster parents own children, without special approval by the Director of TFC
  • No more than two children considered therapeutic in nature can be in the same two-parent foster home: only one child in a single foster parent home. Exceptions approved by the Director of TFC when appropriate support or other childcare plan is documented
  • Shall not care for unrelated adults or children (licensed day care) on a commercial basis or to be licensed by another foster care agency at the same time.
